Investing in Lives
Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. (Philippians 4:17 NIV).
From this verse, it appears that each of us has a heavenly bank account. When we give, we are making deposits in that account. Jesus referred to this as laying up treasures in heaven in Matthew 6:20. Not only will we be rewarded for our giving at the end of the age, but we can claim God’s provisions in this life. After commending the Philippians for their contributions to his ministry, Paul said, And my God shall supply all your needs, according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
The problem is that many are attempting to make withdrawals when they have not made any deposits. In reality, there is no promise of prosperity in the Bible apart from giving.
